Ingredients
Scale
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon active dry yeast
1 teaspoon salt
1 ½ cups warm water
2 tablespoons melted butter
Instructions
In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
Add salt and melted butter to the mixture, then gradually add in the flour, one cup at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
Punch down the dough, then shape it into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan.
Cover and let it rise again for about 30 minutes.
Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool before slicing.
Notes
For extra flavor, consider adding herbs to the dough.
